How to use a Pie Iron / Pie Cooker

Ok, let’s get to the food! I loved that I was able to prep SO much at home for these meals! First, lets talk pie iron basics.. you need two slices of bread for each pie and the bread should be larger than the iron. Butter one side of each slice of bread {that side will go against the iron.}

Put your toppings on that slice of bread and then top with the other slice, butter side up {again towards the iron} Make your sandwich as desired {lots of ideas below!} and place in pie iron. Trim excess bread from edges.

Place in fire over coals, cook on one side, then turn and cook on the other. You can buy pie irons online at Amazon or in stores in the camping section. Some are too thin and the pies burn easily, so get a decent one. You will want to check your bread frequently to prevent burning while you get the hang of cooking with a pie cooker.

However, if you really want to only use pie cookers, you could cook the bacon in one half just like I do the eggs.

To prep the ingredients cook the bacon {at home or over the fire} and cook one egg in each side of your pie iron. Make sure to put lots of butter in the iron first, add the egg, give a little mix, then cook over the fire until firm.
